About Grace

Grace Lutheran Church is the Mother Church of the Grand Canyon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Grace, founded in 1914, has given birth to five other Lutheran congregations in Phoenix over the years.  We seek to live out our Christian faith through worship, study, stewardship, service, fellowship, and witness.

Housed in one of the few examples of Gothic architecture in the state of Arizona, our recently remodeled sanctuary with its beautiful stained glass windows and newly renovated pipe organ, dates from 1928.

"The Pancake Church" is located across the street from Margaret T. Hance Park. Every Sunday morning at 7:30 am, we serve a pancake breakfast of between 100 and 200 plates. Reaching out to primarily single male members of our community who are experiencing homelessness, our goal is to invite our community into the deeper fellowship of our congregation. We continue this outreach ministry throughout the week with the Monday Morning Grace Room, Wednesday Evening GLOW, and Summer Heat Respite.

WE'RE IN THE CITY FOR GOOD!  We believe that our welfare as a congregation is tied to the welfare of our fair city, and we love downtown Phoenix! We are grateful for our neighbors -- both the individuals and the organizations who share our space, including the Phoenix Children's Chorus, Trevor’s Vision, Hope 4 Phoenix, Little Lantanas Montessori, Amauri Montessori, Trunk Space, BBQ Mission, Native American Urban Ministry, which is an ELCA mission congregation, Kaleo, a church plant, and the New Life in Christ Fellowship Tongan Methodist congregation. We are also grateful to God for our many ministry partners who join us in building community, doing justice, and responding with love and grace to the needs we all have.

All are welcome!  Grace Lutheran Church is an open and affirming community of faith, actively pursuing the sort of multi-cultural vision encouraged by the New Testament. More than just a slogan, everyone is welcome at Grace, regardless of race, creed, economic status, sexual orientation, or social position.  Please come and enrich our community of faith with your presence!
