At the center of our religion, love. What heals us, love. What heals our communities, love. Also, the stated motive of most religious people, regardless of actual outcomes, love. I agree with the Beatles: “All you need is love.”
As we expectantly wait for Christmas, one persona dominates the church world, another persona our culture at large. These two prominent figures both speak of how we should act, what we should do—and the consequences if we do not. The persona of our culture at large? Who can we find everywhere at malls and on cards and sung about in songs during the month of December? Santa Claus.
How about the persona of the church world? Who is it who dominates our Advent stories? Right. John the Baptist.
It’s game on at Our Saviour’s tonight, June 11, from 6:30-830 pm.
Have a favorite card game or board game? Want to learn some new games? Join us for game night!
Ice cream sundaes provided, and lots of games too. Feel free to bring your favorite game, too. All ages are welcome. Hosted by Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1212 E Glendale Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85020.

Very often good-intentioned people are overwhelmed by the magnitude of need in our community but do not know where to start. The Summer Respite Program accepts every volunteer with the knowledge that everyone has strengths, skills and love that can benefit others and themselves in ways that none of us can even imagine.
In advance we thank all volunteers and participants in the Summer Respite Program. 2019 Heat Respite will begin on June 10 and run until August 30. We will serve breakfast and lunch each day; we will also provide snacks and plenty of water for anyone looking to find shelter from the heat during 9:00 am—5:00 pm.
Saturday, June 8, 2019 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, at Fair Trade Cafe 1020 N 1st Ave., Phoenix, AZ
Join Arizona Faith Network for Community Conversation on Race Unity. In celebration of and partnership with the Bahá'í Faith (the annual Bahá'í Unity Day this year is June 9) we have organized guided community conversations on the most challenging issue facing America - racism. Join us for this informative yet casual community event. All people are welcome.
For this ministry, Grace partnered with Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest to provide a monthly morning of fun for foster children. We are looking to start this ministry back up after the summer. If you are interested in taking on a volunteer leadership position, please reach out to Pastor Sarah. We need assistance with marketing, flyer development, and some of the administrative coordinating. Thank you!
Please help encourage this year’s Soul Journeyers as they travel to Holden Village in Washington State. The Soul Journeyers will receive notes from their families and YOU throughout their trip. Among the most familiar words of scripture, Psalm 23 wakes us up to God’s shepherding presence and provision in our lives. Our shepherd sets us down in green pastures, leads us beside still waters, restores our soul, sets our feet on a path that leads to life, walks with us even in valley of the shadow of death. The shepherd makes space for us at a table, a place of feasting and sharing, abundance and joy, even when we are surrounded by our enemies. And when we get up from the table, what it is that follows us is God’s goodness and mercy.
