On Monday, May 6 at 7:00-8:30 pm, a book study will be held on Chasing the Scream, Johann Hari. Compassion, healing, forgiveness, reconciliation, love: these are principles that harm reduction and communities of faith have in common. Harm reduction seeks to meet people where they are at, love them as they are, and provide assistance without judgment. The Bible calls for Christians to address the needs of people who are suffering and sees Jesus as an example of healing outreach to people who were rejected because of their illnesses and afflictions.

However, despite such similar fundamentals, a disconnect has formed due to stigma by those who view addiction as a moral failing rather than a disease. Join us for a discussion on Johann Hari’s Chasing The Scream to discuss the harms bred by the War on Drugs and how faith and harm reduction communities can work together to approach addiction with empathy and grace.

The book study will be co-led by Pastor Sarah and a staff member from Sonoran Prevention Works.
